Root, the mercilessly friendly tournament! 3rd edition
It was on Saturday, May 25, 2024, that the 3rd edition of the Quebec Root tournament took place, gathering 49 players at the stunning Resto-Pub Abyss in Montreal.
Participants from across Quebec, Toronto, and even the United States attended this successful edition. Players were invited starting at 12:00 PM. Each participant received a personalized name tag containing an exclusive promotional card for tournament participants. This included a new leader of the Canopy Dynasty faction, designed by Ioannis, one of the participants. Additionally, each player also received an objective sheet designed by Daren, another participant.
The tournament kicked off around 1:00 PM following the organizers' detailed briefing and rules presentation. They had set up 10 tables in advance, each accommodating 4 to 5 players. This edition introduced a more competitive setup for the initial round. Among these tables, 7 opted to draft the 2 new factions, Rats and Badgers, and 2 tables were exclusively English-speaking (materials and discussions). Autumn, winter, and lake maps were randomly assigned among these tables. The Exiles & Partisans deck was used throughout the tournament.
By 4:30 PM, all matches of the first round were completed. Exciting battles featuring various faction combinations provided a rich array of player interactions. Players who were eliminated gathered for friendly matches, aiming to achieve the most objectives and compete for a prize. This year's endgame puzzle involved players embodying the Conspiracy of the Corvids faction, attempting to increase their victory points from 10 to 30 in a single game round. Despite some players making progress, no one cracked the puzzle. All players who attempted a solution were entered into a draw for a special prize.
At 5:00 PM, the 10 winners from the qualifying round convened at 2 tables for the final round, set on the mountain map with the Exiles & Partisans deck. It was a thrilling finale with tightly contested scores.
By 8:30 PM, prizes and trophies were awarded to the winners, followed by a draw for numerous participation prizes.
At 9:00 PM, the day concluded as scheduled. Participants expressed their satisfaction at being part of a day designed especially for Root game fans. We are proud to see the Quebec Root community growing year after year.
A special thanks to ÎLO and Marc for believing in my ideas and providing all these Root games, expansions, and prizes to the winners each year. You have a truly compassionate and generous team.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the next edition!
